RUNES OF LIGHT AND SHADOW

Runes draw their magic from Gaia and Nature, and naturally fall withing the power of the elements. While Nature is the force of life and the abundance it provides, it is and always has been completely neutral. It does not exist to help us or to harm us. While there is no intent in the beauty a sunset, it is equally so for the destruction of tornadoes, hurricanes and forest fires. There is neither intent nor reason to cause harm or benefit. Those concepts are purely within the purview of sentient creatures, such as Man.

Like early man who witnessed lightening hit a tree and saw fire for the first time, he realized that he could harness this power and use it to keep his family warm, cook his food, and light his way in the dark. But it did not take long for him to use this gift to burn down the homes of his enemies, lay waste to forests to create pastures and farms, or to forge weapons of war with its heat. The power of nature is all about us. But it is Man who gave birth to "Intent."
