Garou Rage and the Rage Meter

Werewolves are always in a growing state of anger every time a rage-inducing situation occurs in roleplay.  Rage is not a permanent state, but it can get out of hand if the Werewolf is not careful and mindful of it. Garou are a highly volatile race. When they are in certain “roleplay” situations, they experience Rage. The Player’s Character will earn one point of Rage (or two if wounded by silver) when the following (or similar) roleplay situations occur:

  • Full Moon: In DOD, the full moon takes place the 1st, 2nd & 3rd of Every Month. This will give you one rage point for each of those days. Make sure to plan for these auto rage points.
  • Embarrassment or humiliation
  • Being called a liar (when you are actually telling the truth)
  • Having your integrity or honor questioned
  • Being challenged by another Garou or other being
  • Botching a roll (rolling a natural 1-10)
  • Any strong or negative emotion (lust, anger, envy, jealousy)
  • Extreme hunger
  • Confinement
  • Helplessness
  • Being taunted by an enemy
  • Large quantities of silver in the area
  • Being wounded (normal damage)
  • Being wounded by silver (2 pts Rage)
  • Seeing a pack mate wounded or attacked
  • Having your Lovemate or Lifemate threatened, attacked or hit-on by another

Rage Meter

The Rage Meter is worn on your Avatar and appears above the head of your Character. It helps Players keep track of their Rage Points. You can make it visible for all to see or hide it from view when it is not in use. However, during combat it should be viewable. On the Rage Meter, there are two rows with 10 boxes each – the top row is Temp Rage (Green) and the bottom Row is Frenzy Rage (Red). All Garou, no matter their level, have a max of 10 Rage points per row.

Because Rage points are earned in character, in roleplay, it must be kept track of manually. (The DOD HUD can't read chat and determine if something angered your character.) When you earn a Rage Point, simply click an empty white box to turn it Green. This will also add a Red box/point to your Frenzy Rage. Temp and Frenzy Rage grow simultaneously. Each time you add a point of Temp Rage, it will automatically populate your Frenzy Rage.

  • Temp Rage is the controllable and beneficial aspect of a Garou’s Rage where they are still in charge of their actions. It gives the Garou the ability to consciously channel that force (points) into a positive action, such as make two attacks in a single turn, OR instantly change into any of his/her/their forms in a single turn. Each of these require the Player to spend two (2) Temp Rage Points to execute. This is done by clicking a Green Temp Rage Box on the Rage Meter. Click two Green boxes and turn them white to spend them on either of those two actions.

NOTE: Temp Rage, if not used, dissipates one point/square per hour.

  • Frenzy Rage is the dangerous and primal aspect of Rage. It is uncontrollable, unstoppable, and deadly dangerous. The Garou is taken over completely by their Wolf and their rage recognizes no friends, no allies, and no mercy. Frenzy Rage sees the Garou losing all control and submitting to either Berserk Frenzy or Fox Frenzy. (SEE FRENZY) Garou can withstand up to 9 points of Rage before they lose all control with the acquisition of the 10th point. When a Garou Frenzies, all their Rage Points go down to Zero (0) once the Frenzy has finally exhausted itself, the Rage Meter is empty the cycle starts over again.

NOTE:  Frenzy Rage dissipates one point/square per 2.5 hours.

Like Temp Rage, Frenzy Rage grows every time your Character experiences a Rage Trigger (such as embarrassment, humiliation, botching a roll, strong negative emotions, etc.) But unlike Temp Rage, you cannot use Frenzy Rage points, nor can you manually remove them. Frenzy Rage points come off your HUD 1 box/point every 2.5 hours (real time). It is important to watch this meter. Once your Frenzy Rage reaches 10, your Character will go into either Berserk Frenzy or into Fox Frenzy.
